I was out again with Big Rab this morning. What a day for it, the loch was like a mill pond, not a ripple. We started off from Balmaha on the east bank of Loch Lomond, and headed across to Inchcailloch via the smaller island of Clairinsh where I took this shot looking across to Conic Hill. The small island, just off shore was once a crannog.
These islands along with Torrinch, form part of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve. They are all covered in beautiful oak woodlands, and are home to Britains most southerly population of Capercaillie, although I didn't see any today. I can't wait for our next expedition. Our aim this summer is to set foot on all of the loch's dozen or so large islands.
