Old Churches Week - Day 5 - Jacobuskerk Zeerijp

After a break yesterday because of my daughter's birthday it's now time to return to the week of old churches. During the birthday party yesterday I was told that the Jacobuskerk in Zeerijp would be a great addition for the week of old churches, so today I got out there with Inge.

The Jacobskerk is a medieval brick church with detached bell tower. Formerly dedicated to John the Baptist, now it is a Dutch Reformed church. The church was built in the 14th Century in late Romano-Gothic style with Gothic influences. According to the memorial stone in the detached tower, the tower was repaired in 1608. Later that century, shortly after 1664, a new needle-shaped spire was built on the tower. The current tower roof dates back to 1834, when the tower was shortened. In the tower there are three bells, two modern and one from 1502.

When Inge and I were at the church, it was open for the public to visit. So we went inside and took some more shots.

Outside the church:
* 'Sister' Inge in front of the church
* 'Sister' Inge showing how big the church is

Inside the church:
* 'Sister' Inge inside the church
* Inside the church, showing the ceiling, the pulpit and the organ
* The tall windows
* The pulpit

The week of old churches started here.
