Waterscape Tiling

I have become more interested in the history of the area where I live, and today I had the chance to learn a little more.

This tiling can be found in the dry cleaning shop, on the ground floor of a tenement block in Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow. It was originally a fish shop, and the panels of mermaids and ships are intact. I do like the vivid colours. Seemingly the door panel is now in the People's Palace Museum. It does look rather odd with racks of clothing awaiting collection underneath it.

Pollokshields was the first planned garden suburb in the UK.
