Colour Invasion

I could hardly believe my ears when I heard the unmistakable sound of massed 50cc motors. The 50cc trek was going ahead in this weather! I dashed off to the Sheffield Pie Shop, where they pause for refreshments. The Great Alpine Highway was clogged with support vehicles, pedestrians and unfortunate motorists unwittingly caught up in it. The bikes were parked on a back street.

What a great explosion of colour they brought to the gloomy countryside. They would brighten the road through the Southern Alps and on to the West Coast. It was obvious that the riders regarded it as a fun event. The going will not be easy. Yesterday chains were required on the mountain passes.

Last year they had a sunny autumn day for the trek. This year it's rain and snow, but mercifully no wind on this side of the mountains.

Best seen in large.
