Thistle Down

Memorial Day

Memorial Day - a hush, a pause,
Solemnity is cast.
The flame of life is darkened,
For many now, the flag half-mast.

Rememberances come back to us,
At home and in lands afar.
Deep in thought we give,
To those who left in peace and war.

We bring thee gathered flowers,
And spread our cloak of love.
To tie the bands of mortal life,
As foot-steps tread above.

Sleep...sleep, until God gives command,
And by his loving grace.
We'll take our turn to venture on,
And glimpse again Your face.

Rest on...and on in timeless realms,
The grave will yeild the bloom.
And resurrection will bring forth,
The opening of the tomb.
