autumn joy

free scones and cheap wine

and there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
and love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
get over your hill and see what you find there,
with grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

today, like every day, was a gift. but, it was such a good day so the fact that it was a gift was rather obvious.

slept in, enjoyed a cup of coffee, and then went to mount auburn cemetery, which is really quite beautiful. i walked around for hours. strolled really. then sat by the pond and read brideshead revisited.

later i went to this irish pub in brookline that my friend heard had really good scones. like, really? scones? at a dirty irish pub? well, yes. really. we asked about the scones and our waitress brought out four raisin scones that we enjoyed with a $5 glass of sauvignon blanc. in the end, the scones were free. so, some restaurants bring you baskets of bread. if you know to ask, o'learys brings you a basket of scones. brilliant.

yet, the best part was the conversation. i didn't really know the people i was out with, but apparently we have similar preoccupations. it was really nice. i had this realization when i was sitting there, that i wasn't alone. my time in waco reminded me that me and my friends think a certain way about a lot of things. sitting at this pub over scones and wine, i discovered there were people in boston with the same thoughts. it was delightful, and encouraging.

this city feels alive. i am really happy to be here, in the midst of all this.
