Redhead Pair

This pair of Redheads (Aythya americana)--male and female--was on a pond at a refuge (Inglewood Bird Sanctuary) along the Bow River near downtown Calgary, Alberta. We were told they were unusual there; in fact I have only rarely photographed them, and never so well, to my recollection. Female ducks are often much more subdued in plumage than the males--often to the point where it is difficult to identify their species unless they're with their mates.

This is only my second blip of a duck (I think); the first was in a very different setting, in Paris.

Backblipped--after a one-day delay struggling with software.
