On Call

How is it that my kid can keep herself quietly entertained for what seems like hours, but the minute I'm on the phone making a brief but important call, she's there. In my face. Pulling on my legs, my arms, my clothes. Whining, calling "Mama! Mama! Mama" over and over, and finally screaming. At the top of her lungs. Do kids have a sixth sense about these things? My only consolation is that the tables will be turned by the time she's a teenager, and I will be the one embarrassing her.

Big.
