Waxeye

Zosterops laterlis aka white-eye, silvereye, or the Maori name is tauhou.

Another gloomy misty day. Instead of going out to look for a blip I took what came along, an easy shot from a window.

This little female belongs to a flock of about 15 that visits my garden two or three times a day. As there are still plenty of insects available the flock spreads out among the trees. With their excellent camouflage colours they are not easy to spot, but I can tell where they are by the frantic movement of foliage. It's only when they set off across open ground for the next feeding place that you see the noisy, chaotic mass of them.

Last winter, in the worst part, another flock of about eight also visited. If they were at the bird table when the big group arrived there was pandemonium. There would be a largely posturing fight between the two alpha males, while all the others fluttered and noisily egged them on.

Looks quite good in large.
