Life through a lens

"In Memory" by Nathan Coley is a new work at Jupiter Artland. I love it, many people hate it, shudder at the gap in the wall and refuse to pass through.

There are two grave plots with beautiful alliums growing and, instead of headstones, there are iron crosses with the crossbars being hollow tubes. Looking through these brings sharp focus to micro-elements of life and, in this case, death.

A spider's web has caught the insect. The insect has died. The spider has not (yet) returned to consume her prey.

memory, memorise
remember, remembrance
state of mind, action, event
process, state, place.

graveyard, serious place
lay to rest, bury the dead
contained, enclosed, hidden

tended, cared for, tidied
not liked, not wanted, feared

what is life? what is death?
