This morning we went up to the Roque de Muchachos at 2426m - the top of La Palma, home to the observatories and the ridge of La Caldera, the largest erosion crater in the world. The crater, the far side of which is seen here in the middle distance, measures an unmissable 10km across by 2,000 metres deep.

In the far distance you can see the southern spine of the island which forms the volcano route and is part of the GR 131 walking route which takes 3/4 days to complete.

Glad we went up in the car ....
