Bust Out the Shorts

Felt like summer was here today! Glorious warm sunny morning. Out in shorts and bare feet.

Decided the day must be spent outside so we picked a spot on the map and jumped in the car. Headed east to Half Moon Bay when around 2:00 or so it started clouding up a bit.

Next stop north to Musick Point. Completed in 1941 and built by the NZ Post Office, this historic art deco building was New Zealand's first radio station for communication between ships and aircraft. It was a strategic point of contact in WWII for action in the Pacific. Named after Captain Edwin C Musick. Currently the building is in disrepair and owned by Telecom Corp used for their cellular service.

Just past the building are some very steep steps down the cliff to the harbour. We walked down, explored a bit (found a cave!), and then back up. Saw a bunch a rabbits in the bushes.

Last stop down south a bit to Eastern Beach, which is pictured here. Got an ice cream at the dairy and then Jenny "I didn't bring a jumper" coldybums read her book in the car (it had gotten cooler and windy) as I sloshed around with the sand creatures in the tidal shallows.

Just as I was getting into the car to head home I spotted these kids playing on the beach. Went back for a look. This was my last shot of the day.
