Sign Of the Times

Almost 2 years ago the paper mill in our neighbouring village of Guardbridge unexpectedly went into administration. This was a huge blow to the local economy with over 200 people being made redundant. The majority of these lived within a 5 miles radius of the mill.

The place has stood eerily silent ever since.

Two features of the site have always stood out for me. The first being the chimney tower at the back of the site which can be seen for miles around. The second is the factory clock featured in my blip

When the mill went into administration, the clock which had been in place since the mills inception in 1873, was ceremoniously stopped dead on the stroke of midday. To mark the time when the factory closed.

Last week I read in our local newspaper that a buyer for the site had been found. It would appear that St Andrews Uni are the new owners.

To mark this occasion and the fact that there is now a future for the site, the clock has once again been started.

A sign of the times indeed :-)
