Telford's Bridge, Invermoriston

Thomas Telford, engineer, carried out a large number of works in the Highlands during the 18th century, including the Caledonian Canal and many bridges. So he made a major contribution to improving communications in the area. This is his bridge at Invermoriston taken from the (more) modern bridge. Invermoriston on the NW shore of Loch Ness is one of those "3-house and a hotel" hamlets that repay a stop. I've passed through a few times but this time went specially and had a pleasant couple of hours scrambling around the old bridge and the rocky river banks. There are pleasant walks down to Loch Ness, an ancient well dedicated to St Columba - in the old days anyone who touched the water developed boils and skin diseases but St Columba came along and turned it into a healing well. At least according to the information board, one of many in the village pointing out things of interest. Like many places in the area really trying to encourage visitors.
