Village Children's Gala

It was our Village Children's Gala today and it is legend. The Memorial Park was filled to bursting as families come from miles around. The Organising Committee deliberately keep it cheap and traditional so children can stuff themselves with pop, crisps and ice cream, go on all the games twice, meet their parents for home-made sandwiches and baking in the tea tent and still get change out of a ten pound note. We always do a stint on the rota and this year Jen joined me on the ice cream stall where we handed out lollies and 99s non-stop for an hour. She and Becks took part in the parade from being two year olds and they are in their twenties now but the Gala thankfully never alters.

This year's star attraction was a genius idea from the local Scouts who were fundraising for an expedition abroad. They ran a human fruit machine where you paid 50p for several goes, called out 1,2,3 - fruit and three scouts in toilet tents stuck a piece of fruit out of the tent flaps. If your fruit matched, you won a prize! If you want to see this and other attractions from the gala, look here!

Jeanne also blipped the gala today!
