happy daddy's day

This is my father. And as today was his day, i told him we could go for a kayak if he wanted. (not a bad deal for me either) so we spent the afternoon on a lake huron paddle. a backcountry state park south of town provided miles of uninhabited shore line, leaving us alone to dwell in what it had to offer. further down the shore than we made it lies bird island, where an unimaginable number of birds seemed to be gathered. approaching in the distance we could hear them. a distinct sound in the background like a waterfall flowing further into the woods while hiking. a constant hum of birds birds birds.

i love that feeling, when you know everything you can hear and see comes from the natural world. everything but your own voice and the sound of your paddle and kayak passing through the water. alone with the spirit of nature.
