What's in a name...?

"..That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet" (Romeo and Juliet)

THE Bank of Scotland is remodelling its branches in a return to a more conservative image in an attempt to "re-assert its traditional values".
The bank, which was taken over by Lloyds Banking Group in 2009, aims to have all 300 of its branches refurbished by the end of the autumn.

My deceased father-in-law worked for British Linen Bank - taken over by BofS as it had taken over the Union Bank many years before. Then came the alliance with the Halifax - disaster for the BofS, decoupled from the Halifax and rather foisted on Lloyds. Oh dear!

And now the plan is to eschew all the supermarket style marketing and project an image of good old-fashioned Edinburgh banking - with low-key beige wood and blue trimmings.

How many generations will it take for the industry to win back the trust and respect it used to enjoy here in Edinburgh. BofS and RBS "messed up good". And now the second oldest Bank in the world struggles to win back our love. Lot of proving to do first, I fear!
