Portrait of Aimee, Clondalkin, Dublin

Aimee, a political refugee from the Congo, has finally found a place to settle, a new home with her family.

A friend of mine, Yvonne, has been commissioned to do a book about a remarkable community in South West Dublin. They were originally all ex-fairground/circus performers living on a halting site in the 1970s with terrible facilities. Eventually, just last year, they managed to get a nice little estate built for them. Many of the original families have moved on and the community now has a number of newly settled immigrant families, such as Aimee's.

Yvonne asked me to take some portraits for the book. Besides Aimee and her family, I also took a few shots Aimee's friend, HONORE, WITH HUSBAND AND CHILD, and a remarkable man, GEORGE, who is one of the original group. He's a fairground technician (among other things). He was showing us a reel from one of his antique canisters of film, archive material.
