Air India Disaster

Today was the 25th Anniversary of the Air India Disaster - a massive jumbo flying from Canada to India via Heathrow was blown up 100 miles off the cork coast. A special memorial garden was built on the coast. it is a beautiful spot gazing out towards the Atlantic. Every year a service is held at exactly the time the bomb exploded- 8.13am. This year is especially poignant as there are photos of almost everyone who lost their lives. The heart-breaking thing is most of the passengers were families with children returning home for the holidays. Sikh separatists were blamed for the atrocity but no-one has every been charged. The ironic thing is most of the victims were Sikhs.
To see all the faces and feel the grief of the families so raw still 25 years on makes one feel desperately sad. Such a callous, cruel and pointless act, yet everyone seems to feel that this beautiful spot somehow helps.
