Wild wing flapping by female Mallard duck

Nice golden light from the reflection on the water of the bare willow branches. Lots of ducks gathering hoping to be fed, and plenty of flapping of wings! Orange legs, brown and buff the female isn't as decorative as the male. Widespread round New Zealand, there is a hunting season for it - but not where these ducks are!

Scientific name Anas platyrhynchos

Seen at a picnic area called The Groynes in Christchurch
