Weduwe Joustra

Today I had a reunion from my highschool class! It is 10 years ago that we graduated from highschool, so it was a good occasion for a reunion. I had so much fun seeing everybody again! Turns out that people don't change a lot in 10 years. :)

Part of the programme was a visit and tasting at one of the oldest distilleries of the Netherlands that is still operating: Weduwe Joustra in Sneek.

After her husband died, Weduwe (widow) Joustra started to make Beerenburg in 1864. Beerenburg is an alcoholic drink that is based on jenever (like gin) and to which a special herbs mixture is added. The drink is named after the herbs mixture supplier, spices and herbs merchant Hendrik Beerenburg. It is typical from the region Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands.
