Watching and Waiting

Nature need not hurt us to threaten us. A small flood, a minor earthquake, a little avalance, a quiet eruption: we remain safe, but their larger or deadlier kin would destroy us. This species of spider is harmless to us. Other species of spider could kill us with a single bite. As with all, we would do well to remember this. Too frequently, we forget. Other spiders do not care how we treat the harmless cousin. Nature is indifferent to us. Whether good or bad, we can be destroyed. I would rather it appeared as bad luck, not interpreted as punishment.
