The waterquality in high-pressure boilers is essential.
In a nutshell:
Salt and other minerals can deposit at the inside surface of water-and steampipes and at the blading of the steamturbine.
This can reduce the efficiency of the unit and salt can be fatal for a boiler because it can cause serious corrosion and cracking of the pipes.
We cool the unit with seawater so extra attention has to be paid to the waterquality of the condensate going back from the condenser to the boiler.
We measure the conductivity (among others) of the water because it's a indication of the amount of salt in the water (measurement in microSiemens; µS).
The water is lead through a filter with a synthetic resin and this filter was "saturated", causing the measurement to become faulty so we had to replace the resin.
Here Bob and Jos are checking the values at the chemical measurement unit.
