The Lecture

Since I was home from my trip two days early, I was able to attend a lecture at REI given by John Muir Laws, the man who wrote one of the books we used to identify things on the trail. I hadn't expected to be able to make it. I had missed an earlier, closer session while I was gone and had to go across the Bay and drive an hour. His topic was the interrelationship between various organisms in nature. He gave just one example, starting with a tree and the various insects, animals, birds, and organisms that depend on it and each other to survive. He was funny and fascinating, passionate and knowledgeable. It was well worth the drive. I bought the book.
