A plant with history

This is a cutting of a 20 year old Queen of the Night cactus. A friend gave it to us from his plant, which is currently a few feet high and looks like something that grew on Mars. The cactus only flowers once a year, usually in September, producing one bud that grows steadily for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, the bud will open, at about 10pm at night, and stay open in a gorgeous and bizarre display until 2am, when it will die. It might repeat this a few nights in a row, then go back to looking like an ominous triffid for the rest of the year.
I love ridiculous plants, and this one is also apparently very hard to kill. It looks like a child's drawing of a plant for now, and will do for another year at least.
