Now that does look kinda weird!

Different pace of life on Guernsey -- and as you can see:they also see the world through some kinda colour-diffusing spectacles!

Had a great three day break. We never go away for more than three or four days. A week`s just too long for us. We like city breaks and we find three days is just right. We don`t stop. We do some research before we go to make sure we`re seeing all the interesting bits. Then we just go for it, walking for miles and miles, only stopping for photographs, coffee and on-the-hoof snacks. We get exhausted -- and we find walking city streets is particularly tiring -- but come home satisfied that we`ve made good use of our mini holiday.

We hate flying -- but have had to suffer to get to some places -- and are not well travelled, but the highlights have been: Venice, Prague, Paris, Lake Garda and Lake Annecy.

We don`t tend to go back to a place once we`ve `done` it -- but might consider Guernsey again. Easy to get to: two hour drive to Weymouth, jump on the high-speed catamaran for a two hour zip over the waves and we`re there, with our car.

Guernsey facts:

Petrol only 99p a litre!!

No VAT

Max speed limit: 35 MPH

No lorries

No litter

No graffiti

Free to park anywhere at any time of the day, even in the port area

Great empty beaches

Great coastline

Lots of German World War II bunkers, lookout towers, gun emplacements, trenches

Cliff pathways with well-maintained steps and benches

We stayed in a cheap crumby two star hotel -- but suits our needs -- but there are plenty of yer posh places to stay. Had to laugh at the boy-racers cruising around the island in their modified little hatchbacks at 35mph!! And just couldn`t figure out why anyone would buy a top-notch racing motorbike on the island.

And a trip to Guernsey must include a day trip to sister islands Herm and car-free Sark.
