swan river

"we wished to induce others to love what we love, to catch an interest in the ways of nature. we wished to create a society of men to promote the outdoor life, to see in nature what we had seen. truly at that moment began les voyageurs: at night, on the banks of the swan river, with the wildfolk of nature around us."

i seem to find myself passing by the swan river at least once a week, every time thinking about the society that has become such a driving force in my life.
