It's Flying Ant Day!

Today's the day (at least in Wokingham) when the flying ants are all emerging. I noticed one earlier today, and then around 5.30pm the air and the ground were suddenly full of them. Hundreds of them seem to be emerging from underneath our house, which is slightly alarming. These were on the step of our patio doors...

Usually, you can get close to ants without worry, but while I went in close to grab a few pictures, several of them came at me from the air - eek! Managed to get away unbitten, although I'm now feeling quite itchy with imaginary ants...
