Meadowsweet, Queen of the Meadow (Eng)/ Älggräs (Swe)/ Mesiangervo (Fin)

Meadowsweet is a perennial herb, which grows in damp meadows. The whole herb possesses a pleasant taste and flavour. It has many medicinal properties. In the early middle ages bathing has declined in Europe. As people got smellier so the use of fragrant herbs became more popular. Households used strewing herbs scattered over the floors. Queen Elizabeth I was particularly fond of Meadowsweet.
Meadowsweet's salicylic acid content make it useful in treating influenza, arthritis, rheumatism, and fevers. Wonderful plant!
