Base Jumper

The first day of our holiday.

Purdey (right) decided to make it an interesting start by jumping over the bridge (left) just after we arrived yesterday. - A drop of around 60 feet. She tumbled through that small tree and landed on her head on a rock.

We were sure she had broken her back or legs as she wobbled about and it looked like blood was coming from her mouth. She then sat shaking on the rocks and wouldn't move.

She was stranded on the rocks, as there was no way to reach her apart from crossing the river at a very deep pool. After a long rescue attempt involving float tubes, emergency services and the coast guard; the gillie from the beat below volunteered his boat and Dave got across to her. When he got near, she stood up and wagged her tail.

A visit to the vet confirmed that she was 100% OK, with just a gash to her nose which was stapled together.

Miracle dog Purdey. We are very glad you are still with us.

If you enlarge the picture, you can just see my friends Keith and Tessa on the top to give a sense of scale. GULP!
