Sweet Dinosaurs

Time travel... anyone?

Driving through one of our parks here in the city, I had to share with you a glimpse of our glorious past. I came from a sugar-producing island in the heart of the Philippines -- Negros.

These iron dinosaurs served us for many decades. The steam locomotives first came to Negros island (known as the Sugarlandia of the Philippines) in early 1900s to transport sugarcane to the sugar mills. TRAIN 108 (see the number in front of it) is just one of the preserved steam locomotives used around the island.

I was crushed when the caretaker told me that this great iron dinosaur has been looted many times for its antique parts. Some sold to metal junk shops. I hope that a Sugar Museum should be started soon.

This is just one photo that i found online of an iron dinosaur used here in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

And to quote George Santayana:

"A country without a memory is a country of madmen."
