passing on bad habits

just as with humans, birds pass on their bad habits to their children... specificially the grown-up goldfinch on the left is passing on to the baby on the right the bad habit of raking thru and spitting out the seed from the ordinary feeder that s/he's not keen on in search of the bits he does like. go eat the bloomin' nijer seed!! (the black stuff in the background, expensive, messy and bought specially for the massed ranks of goldfinches).

in other news, i had a woodpecker on the nuts this morning :-) i've not had nuts out for ages due to the squirrel invasion. however, now i have a squirrel feeder on the wall, i'm trying to tempt them back (yeah, i know, a bit mad) and figured the nut feeder would do the job - they have some kind of radar and know when it's up (either that or they wander through the garden regularly and i just never see them).

this blip business is a lot easier when you only do one entry at a time rather than backblipping weeks in one go... i might have to try a bit harder to kep up with it! esp considering what number my next blip will be :-)
