The Doge's private transport

The Doge's Palace has to be on the "MUST" list for anyone visiting Venice, and we were no exception.

What an amazing experience; to be, albeit briefly, in a place so steeped in history was a real privilege. We were not allowed to take photos inside the palace, but the Doge's gondola was in the courtyard, and it was impressive enough.

For those of you who don't know, the prow of the gondola represents the 6 "sestieri" (or political regions) of Venice, topped by a representation of the Doge's cap.

As always with places so vast, I did leave the palace feeling that I had only scraped the surface.
