Jarvisness

Oslo Mikrobryggeri

The Jarvis has no time for people who treat a glass of beer like a $500 bottle of wine. All this sniffing, swilling and spitting is for people who are playing alcoholic charades. Beer is there to be quaffed, and with gusto. A bar that brews its own beer can be a proper Jarvis bar, provided people therein do not spend too much time pretending to be conoisseurs, and instead get on with the relatively straightforward business of drinking. Let's face it, it's not fucking difficult.

The Oslo Mikrobryggeri (Oslo Microbrewery) scores Jarvis points on two counts - A) the beer is very bloody good and you're encouraged just to buy a big glass full of it instead of a sample tray, and B) they serve proper pints as opposed to the standard Norwegian half-litre (in layman's terms, you're getting more than 12% more beer in a pint glass). They have at least six of their own brews on tap at any time, with some seasonal variations - the Oslo Pils, a pilsener, is a doozy.
