Quick 'n' dirty boat race

Exciting day in Peel today (it's all relative!), as the Traditioanl Boat Festival began. I was up early and got some nice shots of the old boats in the harbour, then later I photgraphed some artists producing a sand sculpture on the beach (for tomorrow's Carnival day). But throughout the day there were six teams building boats out of plywood, which, at 4 o'clock, they raced across the harbour and back. I was there, camera ready, hoping at least one of them would sink, but alas they all stayed afloat, and were really quite successful some of them.

Later we went for a walk along the beach from Orrisdale to The Cronk, and back along the roads and disued railway line. Kids struggled to keep up and we had fun teasing them about how far we were going to go. The black clouds were chasing us, so we didn't quite get to see the wrecked boat buried in the sand - another day!
