Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi Impnetrable Forest, Uganda

One hour with live Mountain gorillas; something I will never forget. Even the trip to find them is exciting of anticipation, but as soon as you see the first gorilla your heart starts pumping vigourously. Here you see the main Siverback; there was another one who had ambitious aspirations, which had led to some quarrels in the group and even a split of the group, but today everything was quiet.

There are only 700 mountain gorillas living in the wild (and none at all in captivity), all in the border region of Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC, surrounded by some of the most densely populated lands. This was one of 7 habituated groups of Bwindi (of which 6 can be visited), which means that only 48 people daily can visit gorillas in Uganda. A good thing I reckon.
