Stourhead, Wiltshire

Great day out at Stourhead -- a beautiful National Trust property in Wiltshire.

Was built by one of London`s first wealthy bankers, Sir Richard Hoare and his son Henry in the early 1700s. Young Henry did the fashionable Grand Tour and came back fired up with ideas to turn the garden into a classically-themed paradise. Lucky he did, because we can still enjoy his vision today.

The grounds are magnificent, with strategically placed classical buildings around the lake -- glimpsed through the ancient trees as you walk through the garden.

A photographer`s dream day out.

The sun came out. We had a picnic. Fed the ducks. Stretched our pins and devoured ice-creams. Nice day.
