Bowling.

I ran errands today and I ended up going up to the library. Well, right across from the library is a plaza where an old bowling alley used to be. Unfortunately, it went out of business several years ago, but the sign still remains there. It spells out the second part of the town's name: "Plaines" (without the P).

As residents say, this is a classic Des Plaines landmark.
