We have picturesque ruins for sale in Florida too. They are not as old or as well built as those to be found in European cities; after all the first attempt to colonize the peninsula was made by the Spaniards in 1559, a time when most respectable future European ruins were already up and running. In 1564, French missionaries settled Fort Caroline near present-day Jacksonville in 1564. The following year, Spanish troops arrived and drove the French out of Florida. They established St. Augustine, the first permanent European settlement in what was to become the United States. There may well be some lovely ruins around there, but why should I go looking for them, when I have this little beauty on hand, Very accessible, (the road runs past the side of the building); close to the railway, (about thirty feet from the back door), running water, (down the walls); no a/c but painting the tin building white keeps the temperature in the low 100s. What is more, in the present economy, it should be quite a bargain.
