Gargoyle Dog: Let Him Lie

This is some artwork by my daughter. It is a gargoyle but I think it looks dog-like enough to give me the excuse to include the following poem.


Let Him Lie

He said he chased rabbits
the size of dinosaurs
- and caught seven.

He said he was a winner at Crufts
five years in a row
- but the rosettes got lost in a kennel fire.

He said he once buried a bone
so deep underground
that another dog found it
- in Australia!

He said his bark
is twenty times worse than his bite
- and his bite is fatal.

He said that in a long and distinguished career
he's herded sheep, helped the blind
and rescued mountaineers.

He said that, although he's not certain,
he may have been the first dog
in space.

And he said that if you don't believe him
it's up to you.
