most of the day therewith

Now that the early-evening walk-mitigated grumbling-fit appears to be a thing of the past a habit I'll have to get into is taking the wingpiglet out for a trundle early in the morning at weekends to let Nicky get a bit of extra sleep if he's woken during the night and to marvel at how unfestivallish this end of town is, especially in the early morning. Saturday would be a good day for doing this in the future as places which sell coffee will be open, though on Sunday the likelihood of there being any clouds of manky fug outside pubs is much slimmer, even in Leith.

Later on when Nicky's parents had disappeared to try and find their pal's house on Colinton where they hoped they would be fed we popped out for a trundle and a cake, unfortunately finding that, this being Leith, the clouds of fug outside pubs are powerful enough to drift through the open doorways of cafés several doors away, spoiling the nice refreshing breeze drifting through it. Also manky and drifting through the door was a jakeywife who popped her head around, bellowed something which turned out to be "how old's the wean?" then mis-heard my answer, growling "twelve months aye that's nice" as she disappeared again.
