The Edge of the Wold

Unidentified Floating Object

Spotted this in Lingcove Beck on the way back from Scafell to Hardknott Pass in the Lake District.

Another day carrying out vegetation monitoring on the Scafell massif. We went in from Hardknott, up Mosedale, across Great Moss and then a slog up onto the top of Scafell Pike. We descended from there into Mickledore, the notch between Scafell and Scafell Pike. Then a scramble up the challenging Broad Stand route onto Scafell. From there we worked our way along the top of Cam spout Crag, then splitting up, each decended a different gully.

Highlight of the day: a dotterel on the top of Scafell. This is the first time I've seen one in the Lake District, and would likely have been a passage bird moving south from breeding grounds in the Scottish Mountains.

A long day out and exhausting. But so much better than another day in the office.
