Dover Castle

This is a shot of the Roman Lighthouse (yes, the Romans built lighthouses) from the path beneath. This was towards the end of the day when the weather turned idyllic!

Dover Castle is HUGE. Not so much the castle itself, but the grounds. We got there at 11:00am and only just about managed to do the best bits by closing time. We did a tour of the underground WW2 tunnel system, the restored Great Tower rooms (saw a TV program about that so it was interesting to tour the finished product), the fairly sizeable church, Roman lighthouse, castle roof, museum bits, underground tunnels... yeah there was a lot. And all of it was good! All the while we were getting blasted about by a 60mph gale.

The only letdown was the utterly pants "restaurant" which served only weird sandwiches no-one would ever want (including cheese and MARMITE... I ask you) and hot snacks (read: school dinners) at extortionate prices. But the rest of the place made up for it thankfully!
