Urchin Gall on Blue Oak

Antron quercusechinus

I looked for galls in the Shell Ridge Open Space this morning and found several of this species on a number of Blue Oaks. I found a few other species as well, but there certainly aren't as many as in the past couple of years. You can see that this leaf is rather sickly with it's brown spots. Many of the oaks have this problem this year. I'm assuming it has something to do with the long, wet spring and the cool summer.
