looks soft, like velvet

An emergency blip today - I realized I hadn't done any pictures so went around my kitchen trying things out. This seemed the best shot. I liked the way the stems look velvety, almost like young antlers (wrong colour and shape, I know!). It's more noticeable in large but I don't think I have that capability here. This plant is in the corner of my kitchen where it's quite dark and it's only been there a month but it looks to me like it is leaning in towards the centre of the room.

I couldn't get the centre of these Clivia blooms in focus, or the centre of this pestle and mortar. I was using my Tamron AF 70-300mm, but am thinking I ought to cash in my free lesson with Canon soon.
