The key

The child's hand opened, revealing something that was at once achingly familiar and entirely puzzling to him.

Then - of course! - he realised it was the key from his gran's clock.

Open-palmed, the hand seemed to offer the key to him, inviting him to take it. At this point in the dream, he felt a surge of elation, far greater than his joy at bing able to fly.

He reached out, his hand closing gratefully upon the warmly-coloured brass of the key.

Something told him this was very important.

As soon as he had hold of it however, he began to tumble backwards through the endless blue sky.
