Honesty

It was a grey blustery morning with a definite autumnal chill in the air, so we didn't tarry too long at the allotment. There was still quite a bit of produce to pick, though, and our neighbour Isobel gave me a lovely bunch of sweetpeas - white and various shades of purple, with the most luscious scent.

As we were about to leave I noticed some honesty, Lunaria annua, which had seeded itself near the compost bins and was now ready for picking. Peeling off the brown papery seed covers to reveal the delicate translucent 'skeleton' underneath is a most enjoyable pastime.
