Autumn Morning

Summer, however wonderful, always ends eventually. La rentrée, the big return to school and jobs and normal life, seems to happen haphazardly - first the summer sun fades to early autumn rains, then any childish bliss one has disappears overnight when one realizes work or school is imminent. Next, the days shorten and a sharp coolness fills the air, and the trees begin work on a final push, une fête en orange. Then one realizes how summer has slipped away unnoticed, and autumn is in full swing, soon to be followed by first frosts and first snows, and a sort of sadness joins the chill in the air.

I'm at that last part, just now.
