Who Was He?

On my way home from dropping Tom off at the airport this morning I took a detour to the American Military Cemetery in Madingley. It's a place well worth stopping in on for a few minutes given the chance, although I find it impossible not to stay longer, just wandering around, soaking up the peace and imagining some of the characters and heroes I'm sharing the sunshine with.

Nearly 4,000 American casualties of the Second World War are buried here. Most of the headstones identify their subjects, but a few leave us to wonder who they might have been. . . .
