High Speed Train, Haymarket (Edinburgh)

Another day, another means of transportation...

This pulled into Haymarket station this afternoon as I was waiting for my train back home after a one-day conference in Edinburgh. By a hurried calculation, I worked out it must be the same scheduled train as the one which carried our niece back home 'down south' yesterday afternoon after her wonderful weekend visit.

These are the same icons of 'modern' rail travel - the InterCity 125s - that Jimmy Savile spent so much time promoting back in the 1970s. Some 35 years later, they still provide all of our through trains between Aberdeen and London King's Cross, which allows us to quantify the assertion with which Mr. Savile concluded his British Rail commercials: "This is the Age of the Train".
